Pakistan Cricket Board seems to have gone into a denial mode, if the reports emanating from the Pakistan media are to be believed. It has been reported that the top officials of the PCB who are in Dubai to attend the one-day series between Pakistan and Australia went on a lavish spending spree.
The Pakistan media has castigated this indulgence by the PCB officials as the PCB is in a grave financial mess, and cocking a snook PCB officials are reported to be spending close to over 20 million Pakistani rupees on the stay of its senior officials and guests in Dubai and Abu Dhabi during the April 22-May 7 series. Main Text: Is the PCB in a denial mode or is it celebrating the fact that after a long time the Pakistan cricket team is playing a match and that too against Australia? It may be altogether a different thing that the matches are being played in Dubai and not on Pakistan soil, but even this seems to have called for celebration manifest from the fact that whole of PCB officials' entourage has landed in Dubai to watch is team play against Australia. It is quite antithetical to the announcement made by PCB few months ago. While PCB may have to come clean on its indulgence, the shifting of one day series between Pakistan and Australia has come as manna from heaven for cricket in Dubai. It has set up a world class stadium that can view with any cricketing ground in the world. Though Dubai is a neighboring country of Sharjah, where CBFS series was an annual affair, nobody thought about building a world class stadium till an opportunity presented itself in the form of one day series between Pakistan and Australia. PCB could deflect some criticism on it by forwarding the maxim that it was on account of its efforts that Dubai has emerged as a new cricket centre and it could be of beneficial use to Pakistan in future. Cricket had made Sharjah into a city known all over the world, and after establishment of this stadium in Dubai, may be Dubai also become an international city. Dubai otherwise also is on the tourists' itinerary because of the tallest hotel in the world, and with a cricket ground, it can start a new cricket circuit.
