The Mumbai Indians and the Kings XI Punjab take on one another at Durban today and between them they boast some exciting batting line ups and explosive hitters of the ball. This will be an interesting contest with the teams only one place apart on the points table. Mumbai is at number 4 with 5 points and Punjab at No. 5 with 4 points from the 4 games that each team has played.
The Kings XI Punjab have done very well to bounce back after their first two T20 matches of the DLF IPL 2009 ended in successive defeats; they came back to win their next two games. The Mumbai Indians too look a very impressive side, having lost only one of their 4 encounters so far with one match washed out. Both sides have a bunch of exciting international cricket players who are stars for their respective country’s teams. The Punjab line up looks well fortified with international cricket players like English player Ravi Bopara, Sri Lankans Kumara Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene and Indian hard hitters such as skipper Yuvraj Singh and Irfan Pathan in the lineup. The players are rising to the occasion when demanded of them, and team efforts have propelled the team to victory in their last two games. As for Mumbai, their most exciting offering is their tremendously experienced and hugely talented opening pair; who, it could be said are like a dream opening pair in international cricket: Sachin Tendulkar and Sanath Jayasuriya. And that is not all, the Mumbai batting line up has the likes of J P Duminy, Dwayne Bravo add to the fire power of the team. In the bowling department as well, the team looks solid, with Harbhajan Singh and Zaheer Khan in cracking good form and Abhishek Nayar and Dwayne Bravo doing well for the team as well. Mumbai will undoubtedly be looking to continue the good work which propelled them to a record 92 run victory over the Kolkata Knight Riders. If Sachin continues in the unstoppable fashion that we have seen thus far in the tournament, the Mumbai team will appear very formidable indeed. But the Kings XI have come back strongly in this competition so we will most likely see an exciting and well fought match today.
