Pakistan Captain Younis Khan is of the opinion that team Australia is indeed on a vilification campaign against the teams of the sub-continent. The outburst has been prompted by the complaint that Aussies have lodged against Pakistani Off-spinner Saeed Ajmal for his suspected bowling action in the on-going one-day series between Pakistan and Australia at Dubai. The suspect action was reported in the second one-day international match played on 24 April 2009. The suspect action was reported to the umpires of the match by Australian all-rounder Shane Watson.
Is there a pattern in the manner in which the Aussies complain about bowlers when they find him too hot to handle, or is it that when a bowler from the sub-continent has the potential to become a terror, he is handled at the psychological level by the Aussies by reporting a suspect action to the concerned authorities. If Younis Khan, the captain of Pakistan is to be believed, it indeed is the premise. While Younis Khan has not elaborated on his comment, it is a comment that can be placed in the context. It had all started with Mutthaiah Muralitharan when he had toured Australia. When the Aussies were not able to read him, they tried to put him on the mat by reporting his bowling action as suspect. It became a raging controversy and ICC had to step in and set the matter right. This attitude of Aussies is not a thing that has a long past, but is a manifestation that has come into vogue recently. One often wonders whether it is owing to the supposed superiority complex that could have got injected in the psyche of Aussies when they started winning matches around the world. The bowlers of the sub-continent would have been targeted owing to the fact that the sub-continent countries, be it India, Pakistan or Sri Lanka have been giving Aussies a tough fight and have never got swayed by their arm-twisting tactics. Whatever be the case, this strong arm tactics should no be allowed to carry on, as it does not help the cause of cricket at all. Wonder what Aussies would have to say when they face Lasith Malinga in the near future, and it could be as near as the T20 World Cup in England in June, where Malinga would be raring to go after his success in the Indian Premier League.
