Kamran Khan’s Bowling Action Suspect Print E-mail
Pitched By Sharad with C360 Reporter
Saturday, 02 May 2009

Rating 4.3/5 (3 votes)

After the T20 match between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals on Thursday, the on field umpires Rudi Koertzen and G A Baxter, were of the view that Rajasthan Royals bowler Kamran Khan had a suspect bowling action in respect of certain deliveries.  The footage from the match was thereafter examined to check the youngster’s action and the umpires concluded that further action was required under the MCC rules.

It would appear that dream run of the DLF IPL 2009’s wonder boy Kamran Khan may have run into some rough weather as he is now suspected to be having an illegal or suspect bowling action. When the on field umpires as well as the third umpire Amish Saheba were of the view that the young medium pacer has a suspect bowling action they reported the same to the Rajasthan Royals management and the IPL Technical Committee as per the MCC Laws that govern international cricket.

IPL chairman and Commissioner Lalit Modi confirmed that he had received a copy of the match umpire’s report. "I have officially received a copy of the match umpires report duly signed by all the three umpires and the video footage for the game at the Centurion," he said.

"The matter has now been referred to the team management of the Rajasthan Royals and the IPL's technical committee as per the Laws of Cricket that govern our game. I now await the report from the Technical Committee and will then decide on the future course of action," Modi explained the further course of action in this case.

Earlier South African off spinner Johan Botha was also seen to be having suspect bowling action which reportedly prevented him for getting a place in the Rajasthan Royals team. He would have earned himself a lucrative contract with the IPL team had he not been reported for having a suspect bowling action during the fourth one day international against Australia. "There were two or three teams interested in my services, but they could not offer me a contract because of this issue," Botha was quoted as having said.

Even more recently, Pakistan bowler Saeed Ajmal was reported for suspected illegal action. It is because of his ‘Doosra’ that Ajmal was hauled up for scrutiny of his bowling action, some of which, he was informed were delivered with a slightly bent elbow. He is of the view that Australian player Shane Watson was the one responsible for bringing this to the attention of the umpires. Umpires Asad Rauf and Billy Bowden, as well as third umpire Zameer Haider and fourth umpire Nadeem Ghouri, reported Ajmal's action to the ICC. ICC has a panel of human movement specialist, one of whom will now examine Ajmal’s action and if it is indeed found to be faulty, the bowler may face a ban as well as corrective procedures.
