Remember the Indian Premier League Twenty-20 match between Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings? Well a 24-year left-handed young Pakistani Bowler created history by taking 6-14 in 4 overs. Yes, we are taking about young Pakistani talent Sohail Tanveer.
Sohail Tanveer is a left-handed medium-fast bowler and left-handed hard-hitting batsman. Born on 12th December 1984 in Rawalpindi, Punjab, he made his first class debut for Rawalpindi against Peshawar in October 2004. He could not do anything in his first match against Peshawar. But in his second match against Multan, ha scored an unbeaten 97 and took 3 wickets to show that he can be a genuine all-rounder. Tanveer made his international test debut against India at Delhi’s Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in 2007 while he made his One Day International debut against South Africa at Gaddafi stadium Pakistan in 2007. He was selected as a replacement for Shoaib Akhtar in the first World Twenty 20 series. He has taken 24 wickets in 16 One Day International while playing test cricket he has taken 5 wickets in 2 test matches. Sohail Tanveer is basically a left-handed swing bowler with future all-rounder abilities. Sohail Tanveer has a very strange bowling action. Normally left-handed fast bowlers put the right foot ahead of left foot but not in the case of Tanveer. He puts his left leg first and then the right leg after that to the popping crease. Because of his strange bowling action he often deceives the batsman. Sohail Tanveer’s batting abilities have been seen in the International Twenty 20 series final between India and Pakistan where in the very tense situation, he hit a six of the first ball he faced over long on! This shows that this man has batting capabilities as well. The question is how much he can improve on it in the future. Tanveer has quite an unorthodox bowling action. He deceives the batsman with his bowling action and unusual foot position. Tanveer’s special delivery is the one, which angles the right-handed batsman without much pace. There are many unorthodox bowlers in World Cricket History who were very successful. To name a few, Bhagvat Chandrashekhar of India, Lance Cairns & Chris Harris of New Zealand and Mike Procter of South Africa. So unorthodox bowling action is not a problem at all in terms of being successful in International Cricket. Sohail Tanveer has shown his abilities in Twenty 20 when he took 6 for 14 in 4 overs against Chennai Super Kings playing for Rajasthan Royals in Indian Premier League. One thing is sure that the future of the Pakistan bowling is in the making.
