The South African team for the T20 World Cup has been announced and Coach Mickey Arthur is delighted with the choice of players. It has great depth of batting, plenty of bowling options and an outstanding fielding unit he was quoted as having said in the cricket news. Australia also announced their squad for the T20 World cup which will be led by Michael Clark and with Brad Haddin as his deputy since the selectors thought it best to rest Ricky Ponting and Mike Hussey.
Johan Botha will be part of the South African team for the T20 World Cup as vice captain. This is in spite of currently undergoing an inquiry into his suspect bowling action, the results of which are expected within two weeks. If fact it was his suspect action which is currently undergoing independent analysis that kept him out of the IPL as well. Jacques Kallis, perhaps having shown signs of his brilliance in the currently ongoing DLF IPL 2009 has also been picked for the country’s T20 squad in spite of having missed the T20 games against Australia in the recently concluded series. Coach Mickey Arthur is delighted with the squad and selection convener Mike Procter has said that the team is entering an exciting period in international cricket. "We are top of the one-day international rankings but have never won a major trophy and this presents the opportunity to do so in a limited-overs format,” he said. The absence of these stalwarts will give younger players to prove their worth. Players such as Moises Henriques and David Warner are just some of the players who will relish this chance to play themselves into the lime light. Many of those named in the T20 world cup squads are currently in South Africa playing the IPL and getting in some valuable match practice, to say nothing of precious insights into the way several different players function. South African Squad: Graeme Smith (Capt.), Johan Botha (Vice-Capt.), Yusuf Abdulla, Mark Boucher, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Herschelle Gibbs, Jacques Kallis, Albie Morkel, Morne Morkel, Justin Ontong, Wayne Parnell, Robin Peterson, Dale Steyn, Roelof van der Merwe. Australian Squad: Michael Clarke (Capt.), Brad Haddin (Vice-Capt.), Nathan Bracken, Callum Ferguson, Moises Henriques, Ben Hilfenhaus, James Hopes, David Hussey, Mitchell Johnson, Peter Siddle, Adam Voges, David Warner, Cameron White.
