Rating 5.0/5 (1 vote)

Review of the DLF Indian Premier League match between Deccan Chargers and Mumbai Indians played at SuperSport Park, Centurion on Wednesday, 6th May 2009. Deccan Chargers won the match by 19 runs. Adam Gilchrist (25), Laxman’s replacement T. Suman (20), Rohit Sharma (38), D. Smith (16) and Venugopal Rao (28) help Deccan Chargers to reach an easily attainable target of 145.

For your information we remind you that on April 25th Deccan Chargers defeated Mumbai Indians by 12 runs and they again did the same yesterday when they beat Mumbai Indians by 19 runs. Rohit Sharma performed brilliantly with bat and ball. He scored 38 runs in 36 balls and hit 2 boundaries and a 6. Later with ball he played havoc over Mumbai Indians by taking 4 wickets in 5 balls.

Rohit Sharma held the Deccan Chargers innings together just long enough to put a rather non-competitive looking total of 145 for Mumbai Indians to chase.

Chasing 146 to win, Mumbai Indians were cruising to victory and by the 14th over it was clear as to who would emerge winner. That is, until Deccan's in-form player Rohit Sharma dislodged four Mumbai wickets in five balls.

If Deccan Chargers made a tentative start, Mumbai Indian went a step further. The second over of their innings, bowled by R.P. Singh, ensured Hyderabad a double breakthrough. And the two batsmen to depart were, without doubt, Mumbai's best.

A splendid catch by Harris at third man got rid of the dangerous Jayasuriya and off the next ball; Tendulkar was cleaned up by an inswinging yorker. Duminy was the lone Mumbai batsman to play an innings of any worth, his 48-ball 52 containing seven boundaries. But he was desperately let down by his teammates.

From 100 for 4 after 15 overs, Mumbai had slumped to 112 for eight after 18, all thanks to some reckless batting. It is interesting to note here that Mumbai Indians managed only five from the last six balls.

With this win, Deccan Chargers managed to halt their run of three straight defeats in their last three matches. The Mumbai Indians, second from bottom at the start, stay put in the table, but they now have four defeats to just three wins. Deccan Chargers are now on number 2 of the IPL points chart with 10 points, the same number of points as chart toppers Delhi Daredevils.
