Image of public figures is a double edged sword, and once an image has been created in the mind of he public it is difficult to get out of it, more so if it is an image of a bad boy or an infant terrible. Andrew Symonds is one such personality who is finding it really difficult to get the monkey of his back, the monkey being the bad image that has stuck on his persona.

Cricket Australia is still not convinced that Andrew Symonds is a reformed man, though he has played creditably in the on-going one-day series between Pakistan and Australia being played in Dubai. Cricket Australia holds the view that Symonds can have a good and creditable future only if he ensures and provides example about the fact that he is a reformed man apart from giving a good performance as a valuable team member of the Aussie squad. As an encouraging step from the Cricket Australia side, Symonds has also been included in the squad for the Twenty20 World Championship next month. However, CA Chief Executive James Sutherland holds the view that the spotlight would continue to be on Symonds on account of his past off-field indiscretions.

Sutherland also informed that Symonds is fully aware about the fact that he only would determine his future and the catalytic factor would be his performance both on the field and off it. He seems to be on the path of reforms and it is assuaged from the positive vibes that are being given by Symonds and it has really buoyed the Cricket Australia authorities, informed Sutherland.

Cricket Australia also needs to be commended about the initiatives that they have taken and the elaborate manner in which they have worked with Andrew's problems with him and his advisers and counselors. There is a fond hope among the CA authorities that Symonds will repay the people who have worked closely with him with his performances this winter and beyond.

While the world outside Australia may not be enthused by the long rope that has been given to Symonds by the CA, it indeed is a positive step by CA. It has taken upon itself to aid in the process of reform of Symonds. At the end of the day, after all, Symonds is an employee of Cricket Australia and it is duty bound to take care of its employees, to help them in times of need.

This does not however mean that CA is shrieking away from its responsibility to the game itself and it indeed is a double edged sword as if Symonds flounders again, the mud would be on the face of the CA. Precisely for this reason, CA is hoping that moral role would come into play in the m mind of Symonds as well, and he would initiate all possible efforts to reform himself.
