The Scores and Run Chases at DLF IPL 2009 Print E-mail
Pitched By Sharad with C360 Reporter

Rating 5.0/5 (1 vote)

It’s been nonstop fast and furious action with one or more T20 matches everyday; 59 matches scheduled in 37 days at the DLF IPL 2009. It has been a feature this year however that we have not seen the kind of high scoring games that we did last year and we have seen some rained marred matches as well as some complete washouts this year. We have seen some very close matches, and one tied match that went down to the super over as well.

THE HIGHS AND THE LOWS

The 200 run mark has been breached just once this DLF IPL, with the Rajasthan Royals making 211 against Kings XI Punjab. And only five times have the scores gone into the 180s. No total of over 168 runs has been chased successfully; Punjab chased down 168 twice; once against Royal Challengers Bangalore and once against the Deccan Chargers.

The highest aggregate number of runs scored by both sides in a match has been 369 when Delhi played Chennai. The victory with most balls to spare has been by the Deccan Chargers, they got to their target with 41 balls (6.5 overs) to spare against KKR. The highest margin for victory has been 92 runs when Chennai defeated Bangalore and Mumbai crushed KK. Once the margin of winning has been 10 wickets (Delhi defeated Punjab) and thrice it has been a margin of 9 wickets.

The lowest total in the match so far is also by Rajasthan Royals, when in their first match of the tournament they were all out for just 58 runs to Bangalore. Other low totals have been 87 (Bangalore) and 95 (KKR). The fact that the ball has prevailed of the bat often in this tournament is evidence by the fact that in several of the matches we have had teams getting all out. Deccan Chargers were all out in just 14.4 overs against Chennai whereas on three occasions it has taken less than 16 overs for all batsmen to get out (Rajasthan, Bangalore and KKR).

RAIN RAIN GO AWAY

There have been many rain affected matches; two have been completely washed out without a ball being bowled; a Mumbai versus Rajasthan match and a Chennai versus KKR match. Matches have been rain affected and the Duckworth Lewis method of calculation has come into play to revise the number of overs and the target thrice, each time involving Punjab being getting the short end of the stick. against KKR (revised to 9.2 overs), against Chennai (revised to 18 overs) as well as Delhi (revised to 12 overs and re-revised to 6 overs)

CLOSE SHAVES

There have been several very close matches. In one match victory was off the last ball: Punjab defeating KKR. Matches have been won by very slender margins, such as when Punjab defeated Mumbai by just 3 runs. One even went down to the super over when the KKR and Rajasthan scores were tied off the last ball of the match. This one went in favour of Rajasthan in the end.

* Statistics updated till Match Number 40 of DLF IPL 2009.
