If Shoaib Akhtar - the fast bowler from Pakistan, career was to be defined it would be a journey that would be characterized by stoppages in the form of lay-offs on account of injuries of one kind or the other. Rarely a year goes by, when he is in a position to play for the full season for Pakistan. Now that he was supposed to come back from an injury and declare himself fit to play for Pakistan, it has been learnt that he has again hit the sick bay.
Never in the history of cricket has been a bowler who has hit the headlines on account of injuries than for his cricket prowess. Shoaib Akhtar however is an exception, as he has been making news more for his injuries than for his bowling abilities. In the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League he had made a fanciful debut for Kolkata Knight Riders and had been instrumental in winning a match for them, but subsequently he injured himself and was out of action once again. He was preparing to go at it again, and had given quite a lot of hope to the Pakistan team which was preparing itself for T20 World Cup, a major fixture for it in quite a long time, and the plans to make an impact would indeed be hampered as Shoaib Akhtar has again pulled himself off on account of injuries. Pakistan is presently conducting the conditioning camp in the hilly regions of Bhurban in Pakistan. Akhtar informed that he had developed a skin infection around his groin area and he has been advised by his doctors to take rest for 7-8 days. It was informed by the Pakistan coach that he may not be able to be there in the conditioning camp, but would be a part of the squad for the practice games for preparation of the World Cup. ![]() The moot point is, whether he is not able to play in the hilly terrain on account of the incidence of asthma that he has and that is the reason for his pull out. The camp was organized in the hilly region to test the physical fitness of the players and to put them through an endurance test. The pull may add to the controversy that Akhtar is not 100 per cent match fit, and could be an indication about the fact that he has started his descent in the cricketing career.
