In its frantic effort to fill the void left by Matthew Hayden, cricket Australia has been experimenting with one pair of opening batsman or the other. Now they have penciled in on Phillip Hughes, who is among the seven new players who have been awarded the playing contract by Australian cricket authorities for the year 2009-10.The other players who have been awarded the contract include Callum Ferguson, Graham Manou, Peter Siddle, Andrew McDonald and Marcus North, who have been awarded their first national contracts while off-spinner Nathan Hauritz returned to the 25-player list.
Cricket Australia’s Chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch is very excited to include Phillip Hughes as the opening batsman in the Australian team and is hopeful that he would have an exiting future with Australian team. For other players also who have been selected in the team, Hilditch is of the view that it must be the most exciting time of their career in cricket. The team that has been announced has been done, keeping in mind the 2011 ICC World Cup. Aussies have yet to come up with a team for the Ashes series. The Complete Squad Includes: Doug Bollinger, Nathan Bracken, Stuart Clark, Michael Clarke, Callum Ferguson, Brad Haddin, Nathan Hauritz, Ben Hilfenhaus, Brad Hodge, James Hopes, Phillip Hughes, David Hussey, Mike Hussey, Mitchell Johnson, Simon Katich, Brett Lee, Graham Manou, Shaun Marsh, Andrew McDonald, Marcus North, Ricky Ponting, Peter Siddle, Andrew Symonds, Shane Watson, and Cameron White. For Hodge it indeed has been the most pleasant news that he would have heard in the recent times on account of the fact that he was not considered to play for Australia in the Twnety20 World Cup Championship. According to Hilditch he has been given a chance base don his last performance in the West Indies where he had made 60-odd runs and had played a key role. So given an opportunity, as he has proved himself Hodge has got a chance once again. But it would not happened on a regular basis so he ahs to really perform miracles in Ashes if he ahs to cement his pale in the Aussie squad.
