Nightmares in the arena of sports more so in cricket tend to take away the sleep of many a cricketer. One of the most celebrated examples of this kind is Shane Warne, the captain of Rajasthan Royals, who used to get nightmares of Sachin Tendulkar, the captain of Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League, when Sachin had thrashed him the test series. Shane Warne however would have got rid of his nightmare after he took the wicket of Sachin in the crucial IPL match, and more so, when Shane was advised not to play.
Chris Gayle, the West Indian captain, has opened another chapter in the history of nightmares, when he issued an advisory for Andrew Strauss, the English captain not to sleep with him in mind. Chris Gayle indeed haunts Andrew Strauss as he did in the West Indies, as whenever Gayle comes to bowl to Strauss, he dismisses Strauss invariably on the first ball. The facial demeanor of Strauss reflects the same and English commentators have expressed the view that when Strauss must be getting in the nights, he would find Gayle staring at him in a rather dead pan manner, ready to make a mince meat out of him. With such a dissociation with test cricket, no wonder, Gayle brings about a contempt in his dealings on the field, and it being a passion that has hatred written all over it, he scornfully converts it into an arsenal to get back at England, the so-called Mecca of test cricket. As a matter of fact England is one country which has still not come to terms with the Twenty20 form of cricket, inspite of the fact that it is organizing ICC World Cup Twenty-20 in June. It is trying to feign ignorance about its existence under the illusory belief that by assuming that it does not exist, it would go away. It indeed is a wishful thinking, as now even America is coming to the party with the launch of its own American Players league. May be, the time has come to accept the fact that 20-20 is the new face of cricket and any talk of cricket has to factor in 20-20.
