Controversy’s child, Shoaib Akhtar is in trouble again; and this time it’s over a medical report that allowed him to skip a national conditioning camp held in the hill resort of Bhurban.
PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt isn’t too happy with Shoaib’s conduct, and the Cricket Board is contemplating taking disciplinary action against him for violating the central contract. In accordance with the Central contract with the board, a cricketer is supposed to consult the PCB medical panel in case of any illness or fitness problem and only then seek private help after getting clearance from the panel. A source from the PCB said that “Butt is not happy that Shoaib (Akhtar) again went to a private doctor without consulting or seeking permission of the medical panel of the PCB.” As per his medical report, Shoaib claimed that he has a skin infection near his groin and that he was advised 8 to 10 days of rest. After getting the slip from the conditioning camp, Akhtar shortly claimed that he would be fit enough for the practice matches in Lahore from May 21 ahead of the Twenty20 World Cup. “The board has apprehensions that in existing circumstances something may go wrong if Shoaib is picked for random dope tests in England.” Meanwhile, India has scheduled a practice match against Pakistan before the start of the ICC World Twenty20 at the Oval on June 3rd. It seems that that match that brings back memories of the first T20 final has already sold out its tickets, marking a perfect start for the tournament which is to begin on June 5th.
