Knight Riders on Monday has reportedly shocked Chennai “out of their comfort zone” as Coach Stephen Fleming was quoted as having said in the cricket news. If they lose today, they may well not make it to the semifinal at all. As for Kings XI Punjab, a loss puts them out of contention for the semis of the DLF IPL 2009 tournament.

According to the cricket news, Punjab skipper Yuvraj Singh’s current form is reflected in his choice of meal. If his fortunes and those of his team are going well, it is chicken tikka masala that is on the menu at whichever restaurant in town dishes up the best version. Whether tomorrow will see him with a plate full of chicken tikka masala or not will be decided when he and his team take on the Chennai Super Kings today.

The fact that Yuvraj has been performing more with the ball (witness his highly impressive two hat tricks in DLF IPL 2009) will be worry for the team, however there have been several plusses for the team to take heart from: the team has shown to be a great finisher as they beat Deccan Chargers by one run in an absolute nail biter on Sunday. Irfan Pathan entrusted the job of bowling the last over acquitted himself brilliantly to restrict the opposition resulting in a loss. Brett Lee’s return to the team is proving a real asset too.

Chennai are aware that a lot of things have to go wrong for them, they have to lose the match and the fates have to conspire against them for them to not reach the semi final berth now. It isn’t however the kind of chance that M S Dhoni’s men will be willing to take, and will be hoping that their Ace player and top scorer of the tournament Matthew Hayden will be fit again. His absence was certainly felt on Monday when Chennai went down to KKR in a major upset. Coach Fleming has expressed the hope that the slight tear in his quad will heal in time for him to play today or hopefully the semi final.

Dhoni went on record to say that his team’s bowling performance against KKR on Monday was one of the worst in the IPL, so he will certainly be looking for his bowlers to turn in better performances today.

Today will see a battle between some of the titans of Indian and international cricket: Indian team captain M S Dhoni will face off against team mate Yuvraj Singh. Brett Lee’s bowling versus the batting of Suresh Raina and fellow country man Matthew Hayden will also be a contest to watch out for. The last encounter between the two teams had resulted in the Sreesanth versus Hayden clash, resulting in the latter calling the former overrated. It will be interesting to see who will get the better of whom today.
