An In-Form Indian Team for the T20 World Cup Print E-mail

The second season of the IPL is drawing to a close, and the best part about it is that most of the Indian players are in their best form, and what better time to be in full form and full confidence than just before the Twenty20 World Cup? Most of the players who have been selected in the National team for the ICC World Twenty20 (with the exception of Sehwag and Gambhir) have performed excellently in the IPL and are likely to carry on their dazzling form into the World cup.

As for the two Delhi Openers, Sehwag and Gambhir, their performance has been far from the best and rather disappointing, and Yuvraj Singh too hasn’t been particularly impressive, but the others make up for them, and hopefully they will regain all their lost form by the time the Word Cup, beginning on 5th June kicks off.

There is Suresh Raina who is unbelievably powerful and really knows how to strike his boundaries. So many times in the IPL this year he has been the one leading the Chennai Super Kings to victory, and his bowling too has been extremely handy. All rounder Ravindra Jadeja too has been crucial to the Rajasthan Royals. He scored 295 runs in the tournament and took 6 wickets at an economy rate of 6.47. Rohit Sharma of the Deccan Chargers has been unbelievably successful more with the ball, than with the bat and he won oodles of praise from Adam Gilchrist.

Then there are the Pathan brothers – Yusuf and Irfan – who have been on song through the IPL. Both of them are excellent all rounders and an invaluable asset to the team.

MS Dhoni too has been the most successful cricket captain that India has seen in the recent years. His calm and collected decision making and strategizing won India the cup last year, and this year he is all charged up to do the same.

We mustn’t forget the bowlers – each in spectacular form: Ishant Sharma, Zaheer Khan, RP Singh Praveen Kumar, and among spinners Harbhajan Singh and Pragyan Ojha have been spectacular.

India definitely seems like a challenge this tournament, but as Gary Kirsten warned, fatigue could be their biggest hurdle.

Yea, to be honest, the star Indian players are not playing at their best.

magarmuch  - did u even see the IPL   |2009-05-24 15:38:41
ok, first things first. where did u see harbhajan singh, yusuf pathan, ishant
sharma consistently performing for their respective franchises.

india should be
worried that their main strikers are performing very inconsistently. and yuvraj
singh is the leading run scorer from his team so how can u say that his form is
a worry.

perhaps watching all matches or even looking at the scoreboards would
have helped you in formulating this article.
