Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar has spoken in the cricket news that it is Delhi Daredevils that seem to be the strongest team in the DLF IPL 2009; the team to beat, even as Delhi take on Deccan Chargers in the first semi final of tournament today. Delhi skipper Virender Sehwag has also expressed his satisfaction that things are going well for the team and that he himself has struck form at the right time. For Deccan to win today, they will have to greatly elevate their game because Delhi has looked the more powerful and consistent outfit in this tournament.
The batting line up of the Delhi Daredevils contains some of the big hitting names of international cricket: there is Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir, Tillakaratne, Dilshan, AB de Villiers, Dinesh Karthik and David Warner all of whom are capable match winners in their own right. What has worked for the team is that if one player has not performed another has quickly been able to assume the responsibility of making the runs. At one point or another each player has performed well to achieve good results for the team. It is likely that Delhi will carry forward the same combination of players today to the semi final, who did so well for the last league match against Mumbai. “The top-six we played today are all big hitters. And the good thing about this line-up is that if one fails, the other chips in,” said Sehwag in the cricket news. Sehwag is also happy about striking form himself, no matter what the Indian trainer Paddy Upton may think about it. However looking at the fact that the Centurion wicket is known to favour spinners, there will surely be a debate as regards the inclusion of Kiwi Daniel Vettori who has done so well for the team already. Perhaps the fact that Delhi would have come to know rather late who they would be playing against in the semi final would the reason that clarity as regards the players that will constitute the team has not emerged. Today is the time that Deccan skipper Adam Gilchrist is going to will himself to play and carve out a big score. It will also be an important game that will require the other Aussie, Andrew Symonds to give his best for his team. We have arrived at the most exciting knock out stage of the IPL. Of course there is the chagrin that now there are just the three matches left, but also the excitement of knowing that these T20 matches are the ones that the entire competition was building up towards and that we have in store some of the most high octane performances from some of the best players in international cricket!
