Shoaib Akhtar Out of T20 World Cup Print E-mail
Pitched By Cricket360 Reporter

So much for all the fuss over Shoaib Akhtar; he’s ruled out of the ICC World Twenty20 anyway. Earlier this week the PCB was livid with Akhtar for seeking private help for an infection and not seeking permission from the panel. Ijaz Butt, PCB Chairman, even considered taking disciplinary action against him for violating the central contract, in accordance with which a cricketer is supposed to consult the PCB medical panel in case of any illness or fitness problem and only then seek private help after getting clearance from the panel.

His medical report then allowed him to skip a national conditioning camp held by the PCB in the hill resort of Bhurban near Islamabad. Then the cricketer shortly claimed that he would be fit enough for the practice matches to be held in Lahore from May 21 ahead of the Twenty20 World Cup.

But the trouble is, his skin infection doesn’t seem to be improving and he has had to be ruled out of the 15 man squad that will be going to England for the World Cup; and Rao Iftikhar Anjum's name has been put forth instead: "Shoaib Akhtar has been withdrawn from the World Twenty20 squad and Rao's name has been sent to the ICC as a replacement," a board spokesman told Cricinfo.

PCB’s three member medical panel (comprising surgeon Prof. Javed Raza, dermatologist Dr. Ijaz Hussain and PCB sports physician Dr. Riaz Ahmed) found that Shoaib was suffering from "genital viral warts and surgical procedures were done, but he is yet to recover fully. The panel revealed that, “his wound though healing needs further care and treatment for another minimum ten days for the purpose of healing and to achieve skin cover. The Medical Board further recommended his re-assessment after 10 days.

"In accordance with the above program his re-assessment will be carried out on 1st week of June, 2009.In view of the above, PCB has requested ICC Technical Committee for the replacement."

Shoaib has not trained since his series against Australia in the UAE where he was in poor form taking three wickets at 50.66.
