Shah Rukh Khan is not a man who is used to losing, yet his team the Kolkata Knight Riders, or just Knight Riders as it is now known has been on the losing side more often than not in two seasons of the DLF IPL; in 2008 as well as 2009. A young man who is also finding failure hard to take is youthful star Ishant Sharma who has found this IPL “very taxing”.
Shah Rukh Khan is among the most successful actors ever to have graced the silver screen in Bollywood and the failure such as his team has seen in the DLF IPL, particularly IPL 2009, would be strangely unfamiliar to him. In any event 8 straight defeats such as the KKR had the misfortune of suffering would be difficult for anyone to digest. King Khan however seems to have taken it in his stride as he was quoted in the cricket news as having said, “Success comes by chance. My first few films failed. My IPL team failed in the first and second seasons. But I’m not giving up – I want to win next year.” According to reports, Khan will be returning to South Africa for the finals after he left half way through the tournament when his team was faring abysmally. Another person who is struggling to come to terms with defeat is young Ishant Sharma. He is a young cricket star who made a meteoric rise in international cricket and was hailed as a bowling prodigy by one and all. This is why, for the young man, the last month or so “….has been very hard. Ever since I started playing cricket, this has been the toughest phase of my life." And it wasn’t just the situation of no wins in 10 matches that was difficult; it was according to him difficult to be part of a dressing room that had so many cricket controversies. The talented bowler turned out the best bowling performance for his team KKR, however he is aware that there is room for improvement. He may have taken 11 wickets for his team at a decent average of 6.9 runs an over, but he is striving for betterment. "In T20, you need to have a good yorker and different kinds of slower balls," he said. "Also, I am looking to become an impact bowler because nothing else puts the opposing team back like losing early wickets." Sharma is looking forward to the upcoming T20 World Cup which will be the biggest challenge for him yet, not having been part of any World Cup event before in his life. “I am really looking forward to it. Conditions in England will be helpful for bowlers and I want to make it memorable for myself," he said. Hopefully he can make it memorable for one billion Indians as well!
