Pakistan must be itching to get back to the cricketing world and the occasion is just a week away when the Twenty20 World Cup rolls in, in England from 05 June 2009. The exile of Pakistan from mainstream cricket has been long, but they have demonstrated that the passion for the game of cricket has not diminished manifest from the performance in the recently concluded Pakistan Australia series in Dubai.
The teething troubles still exist, but there is a view that the teething trouble, more so, with particular reference to Shoaib Akhtar is fallout of the failure of administrative structure of Pakistan cricket board. There has been an unsavory controversy developing around Shoaib and it has got to do with the skin infection that he has suffered around his groin area. As a matter of fact the Pakistan Cricket Board has released a copy of the health report of Shoaib Akhtar for general public, as per which he has developed genital warts. The erstwhile cricketer of Pakistan, Wasim Akram is also of the opinion that this action is an attempt of PCB to keep Shoaib out of the Twenty20 World Cup, but he is of the view that Shoaib needs to be given one last chance, and should not be unceremoniously dumped. The moot point is that PCB has given him quite a long rope and has been with him for last six-seven months, but he is not consistent in his appearances. The biggest problem with Shoaib Akhtar is his inconsistency, in short spells he can be effective but if he has to bowl more than five overs then he is not able to have that much control over the ball, and can get banged all around the park. But for T20 World Cup he could be a potent weapon for Pakistan team as a bowler is allowed to bowl only four overs and Shoaib can do it with aplomb. The problem area could be his fielding, as 20-20 is game where fielding also is an instrumental factor in winning the matches.
