There is undoubtedly pressure on Team India as they look to defend their title as first ever T20 World Cup champs. An added concern is that the players have been playing nonstop cricket for a while now, touring constantly from New Zealand to South Africa. It will be a challenge for the players to maintain the mental freshness required for this campaign, and the key players for this will be skipper M S Dhoni, openers Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir, bowlers Zaheer Khan and Harbhajan Singh and all rounders Praveen Kumar and Ravindra Jadeja.

The IPL has barely gotten over and the T20 World Cup is nearly upon us; scheduled to start in just a few days. There is barely enough time for spectators to draw breath and prepare for the upcoming battle, so one can well imagine how weary; even jaded the players themselves are likely to be feeling at the constant touring, traveling and constant cricket playing. As defending champions, the pressure is on the Men in Blue who barely had three days of rest post the IPL before they had to push off to England for the T20 World Cup.

Coach Gary Kirsten was reported in the cricket news as saying that the heavy workload and consequent mental fatigue was a cause for worry but that the Indian players would rise to the challenge. "But they have enormous pride when representing India and have become a tight unit over the past few months. I am sure they will look forward to reuniting and playing for their country," he said.

Dhoni will be a key player for the team not only because of his captaincy but also because of his fine batting and keeping skills. He was reported in the cricket news as saying that he was not worried about the tight schedule. "I am not worried at all. One gets used to the modern day schedule and I am sure we will all be raring to go once the tournament starts." said Dhoni in the cricket news.

The opening pair of Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir are also a major cog in the wheel for the Indian team’s performance. Indian trainer Paddy Upton was hopeful that their lack of form in the IPL would mean that their performance would peak during the T20 World Cup.

Zaheer Khan’s injury has been a cause for concern, however upon a full recovery; Khan will be a handful for the opposition. Harbhajan is another key element in the Indian team’s T20 World Cup campaign. All rounders can be a very important element in a T20 match and Ravindra Jadeja and Praveen Kumar have shown why. Jadeja is big hitter, an insidious bowler and an extremely fine fielder is capable of turning a match around. Praveen Kumar has similarly shown what he is capable of, and has the ability to open both the batting as well as the bowling for his team. He will relish the swing he is likely to get in the English conditions.
