Australian captain Ricky Ponting received a scare when practicing in the nets at Nottingham, when he got hit by a ball on his right wrist which has been a matter of concern for a long time. Ponting had undergone surgery on his wrist last year. The injury however has been declared not serious and as was reported in the cricket news, Ponting will be back in action soon.
Reportedly Ponting was practicing in the nets picking up a ball and was stuck by a ball off the bat of Michael Hussey which resulted in his having to sit out the rest of the training session having the injury to his right wrist attended to. "He copped a whack on the wrist and had it iced for the rest of training. He's fine, though, and he'll be back [on Sunday]. There was no need to have an X-ray," a team spokesperson was reported as having said in the cricket news. Currently the Aussies are playing their warm up matches prior to starting their T20 World Cup campaign. They will face Bangladesh and New Zealand in their warm up matches. On commencement of the actual international cricket tournament, the Aussies will take on West Indies in their first match. Meanwhile one gets the feeling yet again that the Australians are again looking ahead of themselves; beyond the tournament immediately at hand which is the T20 World Cup to the Ashes series against England. Michael Hussey was reported in the cricket news as saying that he was hopeful of emerging from his recent bad run in international test cricket. He expressed his confidence at reverting to good form in tests as well as other forms of international cricket. "I don't feel I need to change anything in the way I bat. I'm confident I can still be consistent for Australia,” Hussey was quoted as having told a cricket news publication. Hussey also admitted that test cricket is not the easiest form of cricket for him and that he has been disappointed with his recent performances in tests. In the past however, he has done a commendable job with his Ashes debut, which was in 2006-07. He scored 458 runs then at the excellent average of 91.60. "Test cricket has never been easy for me," he said. "I'm still really enjoying it, I'm enjoying this period as well. Test cricket is a real challenge, it's really tough, and I've learned you can't expect it to go your way all the time. Obviously, I've been disappointed with my recent results in Test cricket. I haven't been disappointed with my actual form."
