West Indies – the Underdogs beat the hell of the Aussies, Netherlands – the Unknown thrashed the Englishmen and the Informs – Indian and South African Teams winning their matches convincingly and in style.

The 4 Groups for the initial league matches of the T20 World Cup 2009:

 

 

Now if we look at Group A – India looks through as it quite ahead on its Net Run Rate and its next match is against an unknown entity in cricket – Ireland. Now it is between Bangladesh and Ireland – the next team to qualify from this group should be Bangladesh. The factors favouring Bangladesh – experienced team, talented and known players and good enough T20 performance against better sides; thus as compared to Ireland, Bangladesh is strong enough to go through.

So from Group A we have - India and Bangladesh.

Group B – England looks through on NRR basis after the emphatic victory over Pakistan. Now from the other two teams – Pakistan and Netherlands; Netherlands holds the best chances of moving to next level as they have a victory against in England and are way ahead in terms of NRR from Pakistan.
Pakistan to make a move ahead will need to defeat Netherlands comprehensively either by runs or by wickets, which is very difficult against the Dutch being in momentum.

So from Group B we have - England and Netherlands.

Group C – The most interesting group of the tournament with three International Big Shots – Australia, West Indies and Sri Lanka. West Indies are through on the basis of their huge victory against the Aussies and NRR. Between Sri Lanka and Australia – It should be Sri Lanka as their players have proved form IPL Season 2 in South Africa and have the right mix for T20. If Aussies are not able to make it, which is more likely as of now; it would be for the first time that Australian Team will out at a very early stage in a major international tournament.

So from Group C we have – West Indies and Sri Lanka.

Group D – This is a child’s play. The Scottish Team have lost both of their matches to South Africa and New Zealand, making it through for both the international heavy weights.

So from Group D we have – South Africa and New Zealand.

Thus, the eight teams to go through the Super Eight level of ICC T20 World Cup should be – India, Bangladesh, England, Netherlands, West Indies, Sri Lanka, South Africa and New Zealand.

What would be interest to see will be the Team standings on the basis of their Wins rather NRR (net run rate) and their schedule of the Super Eight Matches. We will be back with the logical predictions for the Teams to qualify for the Semis, once the Super Eight Matches start.
