Ganguly Speaks on Buchanan, Team India and School Project Print E-mail

“It was a team decision and I know as much as you do. I can’t comment further,” former Indian Captain Sourav Ganguly said on the ouster of controversial John Buchanan as Knight Riders Coach. “There are many names doing rounds, but I have no knowledge”, Ganguly said on Buchanan’s replacement.

Ganguly had an action packed relationship with Buchanan at KKR and the Old Aussie was quite instrumental in getting Ganguly removed as KKR captain in IPL Season 2. Talking about India’s chances against West Indies in the One-day series beginning on Friday, he said, “It is going to be a tough series in the West Indies and I am confident that the team will do well.”

Sourav also did not read much into India’s failure in the ICC World T20 and said Dhoni & Co would erase their bitter memories by bouncing back in the series. He also added that, “Non-availability of three key players – Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Zaheer Khan, will have to be dealt with. I am hopeful that the team will recover quickly from the setback. The team is an experienced one as far as ODI is concerned”.

Ganguly also differed with the views of Indian Coach Gary Kirsten who had blamed ‘‘fatigue’’ for the team’s poor performance in T20 World Cup in England. ‘‘You must remember that Indians have been doing well for last one and half months. You should not look much into their failure in T20 World Cup,’’ the left-hander said.

The former Indian Skipper also refused to single out that Chris Gayle was the only West Indian to be feared. “Gayle is not the only one to be contained. There are Ramnaresh Sarwan and Dwayne Bravo, both capable of playing well. The series will be a tightly contested one,” he predicted.

On the hunger strike of a section of residents against his move to construct a school at the upscale township of Salt Lake in Kolkata; Ganguly said that the project was in tune with the laws and regulations of the land. “I have never in my life done anything against rules or regulations. I’ve never broken the law,” Ganguly said.

I think SRK should back off and allow the team to be know by itself rather than
SRK.

Only can this help KKR become a good and confident outfit their own
identity.

I hope SRK realizes this and its high time he makes a
decision...
