ICC has recently dropped Rawalpindi from hosting the Champions trophy. The ICC delegation team has announced this and ruled out Rawalpindi from hosting the matches.
The recent breaking news in international cricket is about the venue of the Champions trophy. Leading cricket teams of Australia, New Zealand, England and their players are planning to boycott this Champion’s trophy owing to security reasons.

ICC has been in the breaking news recently and ICC has sent a delegation team to Pakistan to assess the conditions in Pakistan. The team will be visiting Lahore and Karachi, the two selected venues for hosting the Champions trophy. Rawalpindi was earlier ruled out by ICC owing to security reasons. Let’s evaluate the decision made by ICC.

There are no solid reports from ICC stating the reason for ruling out Rawalpindi as an avenue but it is broadly stated that it is not a safe place. Recently, the Asia cup was held in Lahore and Karachi in Pakistan. These two venues have been selected after serious inspection by the ICC delegation team earlier. The Asia cup did not have Rawalpindi as one of its venues and there was no checking done there. In this regard, ICC might have opted to go with Lahore and Karachi as their preferred destination for Champion’s trophy.

One reason to rule out Rawalpindi from ICC’s point of view prior to inspection would be it might have thought that the two destinations were adequate enough to host the event. It is a safe approach from the ICC point of view.

Pakistan has been prone to a lot of terrorist attacks recently and a lot of bombs have blasted collapsing the nation. The prevailing political scenario is also not suitable as the President Dr. Prevez Musharaff is about to be stripped off his powers. This would lead to agitation in Pakistan.

More, ICC has been under high pressure from other cricket boards especially from Cricket board of Australia regarding the security issues in Pakistan and many of the top Australian players threatening to boycott the series. As a result of this pressure from cricket boards, ICC has ruled out Rawalpindi to satisfy these cricket boards. Now all the cricket boards will decide on their participation and are awaiting the breaking news of the ICC delegation team that will be visiting Pakistan from August 12 to August 14.

In my point of view, ICC might have ruled out Rawalpindi because of the increasing number of terrorist attacks in the city and to be precise, the assassination of Ms. Benazir Bhuto occurred here. ICC is also planning to shift the avenue to Srilanka too and this might be the next breaking news.
