Johannesburg, September 22nd, 2009: The tournament favorites and the number one ODI team were beaten by Sri-Lanka in a rain affected game in the tournament  opener in Centurion today.  Sri-Lankans amassed a respectable total of 319 with a wonderful batting display from Tilakaratne Dilshan scoring 106 with valuable support from Jayawardene  and Sangakkara scoring 77 and 54 respectively.

The winner was decided based on the Duckworth Lewis method as South Africa succumbed to Lankans spinners slipping to 206 for the loss of 7 wickets.  The jubilant captain of the Sri Lankan team Sangakkara said “Tillakaratne and Kumar batted superbly and we must improve quickly and hopefully do a lot better. It is a question of getting the basics right."

All the 15 games will be played between the two venues Johannesburg and Centurion.  Separated by a distance of 25 miles, Centurion is about a 40 minute drive from Johannesburg.  The complete series schedule is as follows.
