Johannesburg, September 30th, 2009: India earned a consolatory win against the West Indies by seven wickets in a final group A match in ICC champions trophy at wanderers stadium in Johannesburg. Earlier during the day Australia shattered their hope in reaching semi finals of champions trophy by defeating Pakistan in another group a match by two wickets at super park sport stadium. Australia who had earlier restricted Pakistan to 205/6 off in fifty over reached their target on the last ball of the 50th over.
After the win over West Indies , Indian team captain MS Dhoni said “"I think we didn't play to our potential in the first game. The loss was very crucial. To our bad luck, the game against Australia was washed out. We could have easily won that game. But yes, we made a few errors on the field and I think the blame goes to the first game. Getting into the groove early is very important."
About the performance of the Indian bowlers, Dhoni said “Praveen and Ashish (Nehra) started brilliantly. Ashish has been the pick of the bowlers in this tournament. Bhajji (Harbhajhan Singh) and Mishra too bowled well. Overall, I am very happy with the bowling performance. We did commit some mistakes against Pakistan but the conditions were there and they exploited it to the best."
