The cricket boards of India, Australia and South Africa were planning to inaugurate the Champions league in late September but are now thinking about shifting the dates to December 3-9, 2008 due to Pressure from ICC and Players.
The cricket news as of late is regarding the shifting of Champions league dates. The main issues in this cricket news are Clash of dates with ICC’s Champions Trophy, Pressure from ESPN Star on ICC legally in shifting the date, the contract between players and their respective cricket board and unavailability of officials. International Cricket will come in prior to all the players before participating in twenty20 leagues. The three cricket boards of India, South Africa and Australia were planning to conduct the Champions league in late September before the next season of IPL in April. ICC has requested the cricket boards to postpone their dates of Champions league as there will be a clash of dates between the Champions trophy and Champions League. The Champions trophy is to be held in September second week onwards with the tour not fixed as some of the Australian cricket players have announced boycotting the tour due to security reasons in Pakistan, the host of the Champions Trophy. In this regard of date clash, the three cricket boards have decided to shift their dates to December first week after a lot of discussion with the ICC. The Champion League will be for 10 days with domestic players participating in the league. The host of the twenty20 Champions league will be India. The dates are finalized with the ICC. The major cricket news that was spreading among the cricket world is that the twenty20 Champions League is against the ICC’s playing agreement. The cricket boards have clarified this issue that only domestic players will be participating in this league and this is in accordance with the ICC regulations. ICC has forced the issue as it was being pressurised by the TV Sponsor of Champion’s Trophy, ESPN and Star sports fear that the Champions twenty20 league will overshadow the Champions trophy. The broadcaster had threatened ICC legally on the issue. This is also one of the major issues which have led to the shift of Champions league dates. Finally, it is also learned that ICC has come up with an issue that there is an unavailability of officials to conduct the event if they overlap each other. These types of issues and cricket news will arise time and again from now on as various country cricket boards are coming with their own format of twenty20 league.
