Johannesburg, Oct 1st, 2009: Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir were named as the ODI and the test player of the year at ICC awards ceremony in Johannesburg on Thursday night. However the best cricketer of the year award went to Mitchell Johnson of Australia who tool 80 wickets in 17 matches he played in the year and scoring 632 runs with an average of over 30. The awards account for players performance from August 13th, 2008 to August 24, 2009. |

Earlier during the day Australia shattered their hope in reaching semi finals of champions trophy by defeating Pakistan in another group a match by two wickets at super park sport stadium. Johannesburg, September 25th 2009: England not so favorites for the Champions trophy renewed their nations interest by defeating Sri Lanka today. The fourth match of the tournament was played at the Johannesburg stadium saw England in control right from the first when Onions and Anderson had Sri Lanka reeling by getting the top four batsman out. Kandamby and Mathews revived the innings by hitting half centuries and getting Sri Lanka to a not so defendable total of 212. |
