The Central Organising Committee (COC) for the ICC Cricket World Cup (ICC CWC) 2011 met in Mumbai and decided on several key issues about venues and schedules for the World cup. Now that Pakistan is out of the reckoning for hosting the ICC World Cup, the matches that were to be originally hosted there have been redistributed among the other three hosts of the world cup; viz., India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

It has decided to take the bull by horn, and nip in bud its growth. Just a week after an announcement was made that a new American Premier League is set to make its debut in USA, which would feature players from Pakistan and other international players; International Cricket Council has decided to spin off a new T20 competition in USA. The APL is being promoted by the American Sports and Entertainment. It is set to make its debut in October 2009. The biggest stumbling block of the APL is that it does not have an endorsement from the ICC, and therefore is another rebel league, just like the Indian Cricket League promoted by Subhash Chandra of Zee TV.

After Dubai and Abu Dhabi, it is England’s turn to host Pakistan’s ‘home’ series against Australia. Talks between three concerned cricket boards-that is PCB, ECB and CA have reached the advanced stage, where the three parties are on their way to work out an all-agreeable schedule for the upcoming cricket series scheduled for next summer.

The latest ICC Test ranking is out and two Indian cricketers have climbed up the ladder to make it in the top ten list - Gautam Gambhir and Harbhajan Singh. While the opener becomes the highest-placed Indian batsman by bagging the fourth position, Bhajji right now is the top Indian bowler after making it to the number six in the latest Rankings. While Gambhir’s flight came as a surprise, Bhajji’s was expected.

The ICC World T20 is almost here, and all the participating teams have jumped headlong into preparations for it. Most of the squads have been announced, and there is a general flurry of activity among those involved with the sport. Last year’s winners however have just found a spoke in their wheel, and it seems like it’s going to be a while before things can be smoothened out again. Team India seems to be stuck back with a few troubles, erupting just before the tournament.
