Kevin Pietersen ha been appointed as the captain of the England Cricket Team with the hope to create some magic in the fourth test against South Africa. But the question is has Pietersen, the firepower that England needed?
The fourth test against South Africa was the acid test for Kevin Pietersen as a captain. He started the test with a huddle around the pitch, became popular from the time of Michel Vaughan’s captaincy period. Perhaps the luck is also helping Pietersen as England’s main strike bowler Steve Harmison was fit and firing all cylinders. Pietersen played a masterstroke by giving new ball once again to Steve Harmison. He played another masterstroke by sending Andrew Flintoff to his conventional 6th position. Two of England’s most crucial players got their original playing positions back. You can say by these two decisions made by Pietersen that, he knew the fact very well that these little details can make or break team’s unity. Pietersen himself involved in the team huddle to feel the team that, “He is always with the team, for the team and by the team.” Steve Harmison told that Pietersen was enjoying the challenges as a captain. He added that Pietersen always enjoyed the game, he always had ideas about the game and he will always stood behind you in any decision. Harmison added that on the field there were 11 captains out there as everyone wanted to help him! Not just because he needed the help but also because he is learning the art of captaincy. And with his 14th test century in test cricket (first as a captain), Pietersen has shown that he believes in leading by example. His innings also inspired Steve Harmison who scored his career best score of 49*. The people who doubted the appointment of Kevin Peitersen as a captain never questioned Pietersen's ability as a batsman, the only concern was his inflated ego, which could out all the players out of the dressing room. Let’s hope that Peitersen’s journey as a captain, which started successfully, may goes on and on.
