Mark Ramprakash has scored his hundredth first-class century, against Yorkshire in the County Championship Division One. He became only the 25th player to reach the milestone. Ramprakash made his 99th hundred against Sussex, back in the month of May. Headingley was the same ground, where he scored his first century 19 years ago. Fortunately for him, his parents were there to watch his game and he achieved the milestone with their presence. After this achievement, Mark Ramprakash said that he was very happy for joining the elite club of 25 players to reach 100 hundreds in first class/county cricket. He also added that he had an example of former England player Mike Getting in mind, who had announced retirement from international cricket with 94 hundreds. So he had concentrated lot more so that he can reach the landmark. He had spent majority of the time in his career playing two-divisional county cricket and for the large part of that time, playing for teams in division one. So he scored his hundreds against best of the eight counties throughout his career. He thought that his achievement will be hard to achieve for the future players because of so much test cricket, one-day cricket, T20 cricket and now, leagues like IPL and ICL. Here is the list of top 25 players to achieve the landmark: JB Hobbs - 199, EH Hendren- 170, WR Hammond- 167, CP Mead – 153, G Boycott, H Sutcliffe –151, Woolley- 145, GA Hick- 135, L Hutton- 129, GA Gooch – 128, WG Grace – 124, DCS Compton- 123, TW Graveney- 122, DG Bradman- 117, VIV Richards- 114, Zaheer Abbas- 108, MC Cowdrey, A Sandham – 107, TW Hayward- 104, GM Turner, JH Edrich – 103, GE Tyldesley, DL Amiss, LEG Ames- 102, MR Ramprakash-100. If we take a look at the first class career of Mark Ramprakash, he has played 410 matches with 676 innings, made 31,265 runs at an average of 52.99 with high score of 301*. He also made 100 centuries and 134 half centuries. Though his international cricket career is not an impressive one. In 52 test his played, he has made only 2,350 runs at an average of 27.32 with high score of 154, with 2 centuries and 12 fifties. He has scored 33 centuries for Surrey, since moving from Middlesex in 2002. Four other players in the “100 club” who had played from Surrey are Tom Hayward, Jack Hobbs, Andrew Sandham and John Edrich. Surrey County is planning to name the restaurant at the top of the Brit Oval pavilion "The 100 Hundreds Bar".
