South Africa incurred a humiliating loss in the second ODI match of the NatWest series. Stuart Broad played the spoil sport for South Africa restricting them to 83.
The confident England cricket team after their first win in the NatWest series were energetic and inflicted a humiliating defeat to South Africa in the second cricket match at the Trent Bridge. Stuart Broad was excellent in his spell and recorded his career best of 5 wickets for 23 runs in 10 over. Broad was looking taking a wicket in each of his over. It was a splendid bowling performance by England to dismiss the entire South African team to a mere 83 runs. The South African batsmen were struggling right from the beginning when Stuart Broad dismissed the top three batsmen in the first three overs of his spell. Then the entire bowling attack of England showed up and all the bowlers were taking the wickets. Flintoff and Harmison shared their wickets to restrict South Africa to 83. This is the second lowest total for South Africa. England managed an easy 10 wicket win over South Africa, which is only the third ten wicket win for England in a total of 495 matches. England reached the target of 84 in the 14th over itself with some aggressive batting performance by Prior. A lot of records were set at Trent Bridge. Stuart broad became the second best bowler (5-23) against South Africa after Collingwood (6-31) against Bangladesh in 2005. Matt Prior effected 6 dismissals and equalled the world record by Adam Gilchrist. South Africa was defeated by 10 wickets for the second time by England. First they were defeated by West Indies earlier in 1992. The score of 83 by South Africa is the lowest total at Trent Bridge. There was no score of duck in the South African line up in this lowest total. England crushed South Africa by 10 wickets in their second encounter and leads the 5 match NatWest series 2 – 0. Stuart Broad was chosen the player of the match, which is the second award in his career. The next three matches will be vital with the next match remaining crucial for South Africa to remain in the series. It is a must win situation for South Africa cricket team. South Africa is psychologically affected and they must get out of this miserable performance spree to remain a contender in the NatWest Series.
