Is it inspired by the latest Bollywood flick : KIDNAP, starring Sanjay Dutt and Imran Khan?

On a day when he announced his retirement, Sourav Ganguly has a major worry - a kidnap threat to his daughter. While the cricketer called a press meet in Bangalore to announce his retirement, he admitted that last weekend his family in Kolkata received an anonymous letter, which said that his six-year-old daughter, Saana, could soon be kidnapped.

He added, "it would be better if we don't discuss it (the kidnap threat) here." Sources said the letter also mentioned a ransom amount of Rs.2 crore.

Although it is not yet known if the Ganguly Family, which stays in their traditional Behala House in Kolkata, has approached the police, both the relatives and the police have denied that any complaint was lodged in the matter. Ganguly's elder brother Snehasish admitted that the letter had reached them. "Yes, there was a threat letter. We (family members) have discussed the matter and we do not think that the matter is alarming. We are not approaching the police," said Snehasish.

Kolkata's Detective Department Chief Jawed Shamim said: "I don't have any knowledge of such a letter. The Kolkata Police are not conducting any investigation in the case either." SP (South 24 Parganas) Ajay Ranade said, "I don't have any information about the letter."

Dona and her father Sanjib Ray also refused to comment. But after all this the statements issued from CID were: "There were two letters which were sent by post to their residence - the first a month ago and the second 10 days ago," Additional Director General, CID, Bhupindar Singh said.

Singh further added that the Gangulys hadn't given much importance to the first letter. "The Gangulys didn't give much of importance to the first letter, but after they received the second letter they were worried and approached the CID."

The letter is learnt to be written in Bengali and was sent to Ganguly's Biren Roy Road Residence in Behala through speed post. It is speculated that the letter could have been posted from the Esplanade Post Office last Friday and it was delivered to the Ganguly's on Saturday.
