Essel group’s answer to BCCI ’s IPL, the Indian Cricket League is the latest in cricket to turn heads. Despite being labeled a rebel group, and coming under the scanner for several controversies surrounding it, it has managed to make headlines and hook it quite a few big names for their season which kick starts this October.
Along with India’s promise to be a global powerhouse in the near future, the ICL promises to bring Indian Cricket to the helm by making it a major cricketing giant. For years, international cricket has been the country’s obsession, receiving a nationwide audience like no other game has ever received before. Domestic cricket however, still remains underdeveloped and unpublicized despite being the primary talent scout for first class cricket. With the ICL comes the promise of turning over this equation and raising cricket at the domestic level to new heights. This move will not only give many talented young cricketers the chance to make it big in the game, but also give them an experience of the real rigors of International Cricket. Another positive outcome of this tournament is that is that players from all over the world come together in a team, bringing in their own experiences and unique style of play. The sharing of experiences that ensues will invariably benefit international cricket and the quality of competition. In addition, a lot of new players receive an opportunity to perform in a game of international standards. With the new season underway, everyone associated with the ICL , from celebrities to the players, has been working hard to make this tournament a success. Top film stars and business tycoons are gearing up for a high profile launch on the 10th of October. Bollywood’s Kareena Kapoor, top model Yana Gupta and business tycoon Anil Ambani will share the stage for the launch. In addition Rakhi Sawant has been roped in to lead the cheerleading squad. If nothing else, this full fledged inclusion of celebrities will most definitely keep the interest levels on a high. A good deal of money has poured into this high profile tournament from all fronts. Sponsors are many and their response has been overwhelming. Provogue has joined forces as ICL’s apparel partner, Manikchand Oxyrich is to be the official bottled water sponsors, and Future Group and Airtel have been signed in as on-air co-presenting sponsors. Provogue’s deal with the ICL provides for on and off field clothing for both players and officials for the whole tournament. A lot is expected out of this tournament, and after a highly successful first season, the second season will be kick started on a high note on the 10th of October. This much anticipated tournament will see 41 feisty matches in four stadiums across the country, along with a whole new generation of vibrant young cricketers.
