For a long time now, the Australian side has ruled the roost in international cricket, however this visit to India may well change all that. A side with new comers who have little experience and none at all of India or sub-continental wickets may find it difficult and may be staring defeat in the face.
The mighty Australians have been on a roll for many years now; seemingly indomitable and undefeatable in international cricket. Well seeing the present state of the Australian team, that situation seems about to change dramatically and their cricket scores may no longer be as spectacular as they used to be. It is true that one should never underestimate the opposition, but the Aussies no longer look as formidable as they used to be when there was such a surfeit of talent that the problem was who to leave out rather than whom to pick. In a recent statement in cricket news, Daryll Cullinan said, "I think they are going to feel that their crown is slipping, if they were entirely honest with themselves. They would feel that they are up against it, the conditions for a start; a long series. They haven't performed particularly well against the Board President's XI.” This seems a fair assessment, especially seeing that this Aussie team is here without some of their senior stalwarts who have called it a day in recent times. For instance, the wily Shane Warne , arguably one of international crickets’ greatest spinners ever, would be not just difficult but impossible to replace. The Aussies find themselves without the effective spin attack that the likes of Shane Warne provided. Further according to the cricket news, there are some new comers into the Aussie side, whose cricket scores are not that impressive and who, never having played in India ever before, will have to struggle to cope with the conditions as well as the wickets of the sub-continent. It does not help the mental state of the Aussies, that only two of their batsmen passed 50 in the practice tour match played in Hyderabad against the Indian Board President’s eleven, which ended in a draw. The sight of an in form Piyush Chawla and Pragyan Ojha destroying their batting line up by taking most of the Australian wickets with their spin bowling had to have been demoralizing for the usually swaggering and cocky Australians. Cricket news will perhaps soon displace the Aussies as the kings of international cricket, a dethronement that many will welcome. For the Aussies, while a highly admired side, are not very popular or well liked winners; with the hostility displayed on the field, the mental undermining and sledging that the players routinely indulge in, there will be many who will greatly relish watching the Aussies get their come-uppance. Prepare for defeat; prepare to be tumbled from your pedestal, O mighty Aussies !
