The 5th ICL match between Chandigarh Lions and Mumbai Champs had an unexpected climax. It was a low scoring game but had all the excitement of a nail biting finish. Chandigarh Lions won the toss in the day/night ICL encounter on 13th October 2008 and chose to field first.

Mumbai Champs had a shaky start losing 4 wickets for a cricket score of 36 runs in 8 overs. Then Powar steadied the innings with some sensible batting. The middle order completely failed with batsmen returning back to the pavilion in single digit scores. The tail showed some resistance and was able to give support to Powar. Each lower order batsman of Mumbai Champs scored in two figures. Powar was unbeaten on 45 off 42 balls with five boundaries and a maiden six.

Mumbai Champs managed to post a cricket score of 135 runs for the loss of 6 wickets at the end of their 20 over innings. The innings extra of 17 runs was the third highest score for Mumbai Champs. Chandigarh Lions bowling performance was not up to the standard and all bowlers except Dinesh Mongia bowled extras. Dinesh Mongia bowled a disciplined spell giving away just 19 runs in his 4 overs.

Chandigarh Lions started their batting chasing a low cricket score of 136 runs at the run rate of 6.75 runs. Kasprowicz and Astle took the attack to Chandigarh Lions and reduced them for a cricket score of 70 runs for the loss of 6 wickets at the end of 13th over. At this point, Chandigarh Lions were out of socks and were surely heading towards loss. Then a partnership between Hall and Sarabjit Singh took Chandigarh Lions to 126 runs at the end of 18th over.

Sarabjit Singh batted well to revive the team from collapsing. Chandigarh Lions were on their way to victory with Hall – Singh partnership but the game twisted towards Mumbai champs in the 18th over when Hall was run out and the next batsman Uniyal was out in the next delivery. The ICL match came to the last over with 9 runs to be scored. Sarabjit Singh took Chandigarh Lions to victory with 2 balls to spare and two wickets in hand. It was a very close finish and a nail biting one. Sarabjit Singh was the man of the match with his blistering knock of 41 runs off 22 balls with 3 boundaries and 3 sixes. Chandigarh Lions took 2 points in this ICL thriller.
