"Rockets" Missed the Target on a "Starry" Day Print E-mail

A brave fight put up by Ahmedabad Rockets in search of their first win, lead by Damien Martyn fell short of 36 runs in the 6th match of ICL twenty20 challenge.

Damien Martyn thought of a better chance of chasing against the Chennai Super Stars after he won the toss on 14 October 08. The Super Stars managed to rock up a cricket score of 135 for 5 in 16 overs. Then the flood lights once again started playing hide & seek in the ICL Tournament. The match was delayed enough to wrap up the innings of Chennai Super Stars. After revising the run rate the Rockets were given a target of 143 runs with 16 overs to spare with.

The Pisa Tower of steep run rate did poise a challenge to the batting line up and the pressure was evident from the fact that both their openers were rocketed back by the time the cricket score was 13 runs on the board. Cricket360 was then treated with an enthralling 71 runs partnership by Martyn and energetic Sodhi. Martyn fired marvelous shots to the fencing several times and till the time he was there in the crease, an upset win for them didn’t seem unrealistic. Chennai Super Stars came strongly back into the game by plucking off Sodhi’s bails before he could feel the crease when he was at 23. Martyn too seemed imbalanced then and he could not resist from falling prey to Hareish of Jesuraj. Further, the Rockets were just completing the formalities and the whole episode curtained down within a gap of just 23 runs.

After sending the rivals to bat first, Rockets were looking exceptional on the field and they were seemed like decided to torture down the Super Stars. They broke down the stumps twice by the time the cricket score was just 5 runs by direct throws, thanks to Aziz and Godwin, to execute two run outs.  Murrey Godwin was a class apart and his diving efforts to sent back Jesuraj will remain one of the finest moments of the ICL Season 2 , Cricket360 considers. After three overs, Super Stars could make only 18 runs on the board. But they were destined to make it big and Kunal Lal was at the receiving end. In his first over, Rockets fetched 18 runs and the captain decided to replace the shabby bowler. The duo of Russel Arnold and Vignesh took only 26 balls to build up their fifty partnership. But an unnecessary shot from Vignesh couldn’t get past Kalia on his way to the ropes of Sodhi. He was bursting out at 38 runs at that time.

Then with the classic run out by Godwin, Rockets extended the grip over the Stars and they were getting back in to the rhythm. But Cricket360 felt, Arnold was continuing his batting session from where he had left, in the last ICL match and the tricky Sri Lankan made the bowlers sweat out much. By the time he was out 4 runs short of fifty the basement of their innings was well constructed. Satish was just following tips from his partner and he thrashed an unbeaten 27. By the time the lights were off they were well begun half done, in the match.

The funniest moment of the match was when Cricket360 found the umpire calling back the bowler after he had forgotten twice about the wide balls and asked him to continue the over.
