Michael Vaughan has seen a lot of troubled times recently. After giving up his test captaincy, he was unceremoniously, even harshly treated by the ECB when he was dropped from the side. Not to be deterred however, Vaughn has made clear his intentions of getting back into the English side; whatever it takes!
Michael Vaughan is one player who has seen a dramatic descent in recent times, from leader-of-the-team to nowhere-in-the-team. A lot has been written about him in recent cricket news , of his rapid decline in form and fortune, and whether he will once again raise the phoenix – like from the ashes. To be sure Vaughan is no stranger to comebacks, having struggled back after injury. However the manner in which the English Cricket Board (ECB) has dealt with his lack of form by axing him from the English cricket team altogether seems rather brutal considering his seniority, talent and contribution to English cricket. Vaughan is not going to be part of the upcoming matches in the forthcoming series to be played against India in coming winter, when the team will be touring the subcontinent. Though the ECB can certainly be seen as having dealt with Vaughan harshly in summarily dropping him from the English team, the man is a fighter and is undaunted by this treatment. In a cricket special report, in the Sunday Telegraph, Vaughan was quoted as having said that he would "I'm going to dedicate the next year to getting back into the England team." He is determined to claw his way back into the English team even if it means the upcoming matches of the England Lions trip to India pre-Christmas. He said that that “would probably be favourite, to see if I can force my way into the team to go to the West Indies before the Ashes." There are plenty of romours doing the rounds in cricket news: that he is going to play for South Australia, that he will become a TV commentator, etc. Vaughan has denied these rumors, training his sights on getting back into the English side. He has however joined the Telegraph Media Group as a cricket columnist. Former cricketer and one of cricket’s great characters, Geoffrey Boycott is of the opinion that Vaughan is prey to conflicting and mixed up emotions after having given up his test captaincy and that he needs to sort out his mind first. The inimitable Boycott, in a special report about Vaughan and his place in the English side said that – “He needs to get over all the stress and turmoil of the summer, and then come back with a clear plan of how he intends to make runs”. Sounds like a plan; it remains to be seen what the future has in store for an admittedly talented and very determined Michael Vaughan.
