Even though Hayward managed to cage Chandigarh Lions, Tuffy and Hall ensured that Chennai Super Stars couldn’t get through the target of 164 in the 10th ICL T20 match.
Tuffy was the man in charge of the devour, supported by Andrew Hall to ensure the defeat of Chennai Super Stars on the day out of Chandigarh lions at Ahmadabad on 18 October 08. Tuffey started the slaughter in the 4th over by landing Vignesh in the hands of Vincent. He had more on the menu cards as the 6th over found Harvey surrendering to T P Singh on his ball and Hall engulfing Stuart Law in the same over. Cricket360 could feel the girth of the damage he had done by the time he had completed the allotted four overs as he had fetched 3 wickets by conceding only 13 runs. Chennai Super Stars took 9 overs to reach up to 50 runs and only the partnership of Arnold and Satish was what they could proudly look back to. But Hall got the better part of Arnold as the latter could not escape from getting bowled by an inside edge of the veteran bowler in the 15th over before he had made the score cards read 35 from 30 balls. Satish was phenomenal but his 36 out of just 26 balls too could not rewrite Chennai Super Star’s fate. Chandigarh Lions, batting first earlier in the innings, was shattered by Vincent’s wicket and Hayward’s Yorker which removed, in form Elliot’s bails. Elliot made a sporting 27 runs of just 21 balls. Once again Hayward thrashed them in the 7th over by gulping T P Singh in an unbelievable catch on his own ball which would definitely be the superb catch of ICL Season 2 as per Cricket360’s observations. Chennai were trying to get groomed in the following overs, but Shabbir Ahammed who had been beaten around in his first spell broke the only successful partnership by sending Mongia in to the hands of keeper Hemant. 17th over saw Hayward pocketing the wickets of Gupta and S Singh in consecutive balls and in the 20th over once again flood lights went off but the inning was completed with Lions setting a target of 164 runs in 20 overs. The starting of Chennai Super Stars was itself tottering as they took 9 overs to reach up to 50 runs. But Cricket360 noticed a blunder committed by Cairns, the Lions captain by bringing back Malhotra who had conceded 17 runs in his first over, to bowl in the 12th over. The cracking partnership of Arnold and Satish was broken by Andrew hall in the 15th over when he could find an inside edge of Arnold running over the sticks. Later Satish took over the demolishing but couldn’t get past Malhotra in the 17th over after smashing 38 runs of 26 balls. In the 19th over it was Hemant in the crease and he was totally run out of steam to make even singles. When Hall came in to bowl the 20th over Chennai Super Stars needed 17 runs to cage the Lions, but he conceded only 8 runs and sent two stars back. The whole episode concluded when Chennai Super Stars laid off their weapons at 155 for 8 in 20 overs, surrendering to Lions for a margin of 8 runs. Cricket360 was elated when Tuffey agreed to Harvey to face the last ball of his innings amidst light problems in the first half of the match, which he could have very well refused. Also hats off to Harvey who forsaken a sure chance of run out in the last ball which showed the sportsman spirit of a class player.
