The Mohali police on Wednesday booked a foreign national on charges of disrespecting the Tricolour on the last day of the second Cricket test match between India and Australia at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Stadium.
Singh said the action was taken on the basis of a news report, which appeared in English daily, showing the foreign national walking about with the national flag wrapped below his waist. "We have yet to identify the accused through his details being procured from a Chandigarh hotel, where the foreign national had reportedly stayed during his Mohali visit," said DSP (City-II). This was the second case of disrespect to the Tricolour registered in Mohali during the test match. During the inauguration of the match on October 17, the officials of PCA were booked under same charges for hoisting the Tricolour upside down on top of the north pavilion block. The law provides imprisonment up to three years or fine or both for those found guilty of dishonouring the Tricolour in any manner at a public place.
