With Manoj Prabhakar reluctant to teach the visitors how to reverseswing it like the Indians, the Aussies pulled a doosra on Sunday by roping in former Indian skipper and left-arm spin legend Bishan Singh Bedi instead. Bedi, sporting a cap with Australia written in bold on the front, gave tips mainly to rookie spinner Jason Krejza at nets before being mobbed by an inquisitive media and asked to explain what he thought of the opposition tweakers. ‘‘They lack flight and guile,’’ Bedi said, ‘‘The most important thing is self-belief. Krejza is inexperienced but has a good side-on action and Cameron White is a quality cricketer but slightly fast for a legspinner. But everyone is in the Australian team because they deserve to be. I didn’t teach them anything, you can’t in such short time. We only had some discussions. Please don’t make an issue of my helping the Aussies. Manager Steve Bernard requested my presence so I’m here.’’ Bedi also agreed Shane Warne’s retirement had left a big void and the Aussies were struggling on the spin front. Krejza was unimpressive in a tour game and is yet to make his debut, although former Australia skipper Allan Border has suggested Ricky Ponting should play him in the third Test ‘‘to find out one way or the other whether he is the right bloke’’. Border said: ‘‘They should have the guts to play him.’’ Matthew Hayden, meanwhile, said the Aussies were pleased with Bedi lending a helping hand. ‘‘Our relationship goes back a long way, right to the MRF Cricket Academy where I gained a lot of knowledge from him. He has been a good friend to the Australian team and the international cricket community.’’ Rahul Dravid, on his part, reacted by saying: ‘‘It’s nothing unusual. Cricket is a global game. Knowledge must be shared.’’
