Shane Warne Optimistic On Aussie Comeback Print E-mail
Pitched By Vicky Rathore

Shane_Warne.JPGThe 39-year-old Warne retired in January last year - with a then world record of 708 Test wickets - but Australia has been unable to find a suitable spin bowler to replace him.

Shane Warne thinks Australia can bounce back in the Test cricket series in India and sees no urgent need to come out of international retirement to help out.

Nowhere in cricket will the lack of a quality spin option become more obvious than in the Indian subcontinent, and No. 1-ranked Australia is struggling after going down 1-0 in the four-match series on a comprehensive 320-run loss to India in the second Test last week.

"I think Australia will bounce back, I think that really hurt them, that last Test match, and I'm sure they'll fight back in the Aussie way," Warne said during the launch of an exhibition at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Monday. He tipped skipper Ricky Ponting, experienced opener Matt Hayden and vice-captain Michael Clarke to start scoring more runs.

"Hopefully they win the toss and put some big runs on the board," he said. "I think it's been a fantastic series so far and I'm sure the Aussies will fight back.

"But as far as I'm concerned, I am very happily retired."

Warne while commiserating with Lee, who split from his wife Liz in August, said he was passing through the toughest time of his career but was confident that the speedster would bounce back.

"It's always very difficult. You've got to be pretty strong mentally to be able to perform on the field and then deal with your issues off the field on the personal side of things. It's the toughest thing you have to go through, really, in your life," Warne said.

"It's obviously a tough time to go through for anyone, let alone being in the public spotlight when you're out there trying to do the best you can for your country as well," Warne was quoted as saying by the 'Daily Telegraph'.

The form of Lee, who had little impact with the ball in the first two Tests, claiming four wickets at 59.25, would be crucial for Australia's fate in the remaining two Tests of the Series.

The third Test starts on Wednesday in New Delhi.
