Well, the IPL has taken the world by storm, and there is no denying that it is one of the biggest tournaments the world has seen. But something is sorely missing from the second season this year: the wild crazy support of Indian fans at home. And just as much as the game is missing its exuberant fans in South Africa, fans are missing the game back home.

Review of the DLF Indian Premier League match played between Delhi Daredevils and Deccan Chargers at Kingsmead, Durban on Wednesday 13.05.2009. In a keenly fought contest Royal Challengers lost to Delhi Daredevils by 12 runs. Dinesh Karthik (44 n.o.) and 50 runs second wicket partnership between Dilshan and Gambhir made the way a bit smooth for Daredevils.

It had all started with John Wright when he was appointed as the first foreign coach with the Indian team, and it was followed up with Greg Chappell, and now Gary Kirstein has stepped into Chappell’s shoes to be the coach for the Indian team. Taking a cue from this development, when the Indian Premier League was launched it was found that nearly all of the eight teams of the IPL have foreign coaches, though there is no dearth of good Indian coaches. Interestingly enough, five of these coaches are of Australian origin and it warrants a question whether coaches of other countries are not up to the required standards, or is it a fact that the coaches from Australia supposedly add more brand value to the team in terms of its valuation.

If there is one distinct motif in the second season of the Indian Premier League it is the dominance of the left-handers in the tournament so far, be it in the bowling department or the batting department. So, is an era of left hand dominance going to rule the roost in the IPL as well.

In the modern times of cricketing world if a Google search were to be made about the player who electrified the proceedings of the match with his fielding, the search would throw up the name of Jonty Rhodes maximum number of times, and after that there would be a wide hiatus. He was the fielder who energized the game of cricket with his sheer presence, lording the area of covers on the ground; rarely it happened that a ball could pas through him. No wonder, he was selected to be the fielding coach for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League.
