Cricket was the talk of the town a long time back, then came the time of Test Cricket, England Cricket Team, Australian Cricket Team, and then West Indies Cricket Team surpassed everybody. Just when all this was going around suddenly the revolutionary ODI Cricket came into existence taking over the Cricket World. This was the beginning of the end of the Stalwarts and rise of New Titans.
Indian Cricket saw the major turn around from 1983 World Cup Victory, rest is history. But the interesting fact is whether it is Indian Media or the World Media, the most adored kids of the Media is the Indian Cricket and The Indian Cricketers. And recently the “Breaking News ” has been spiced up with the retirement news and aging factor with rusty performances of the Stalwarts of Modern Indian Cricket. So whom do we start of with: The Maharaja - Sourav Ganguly, The Fighter – Anil Kumble, The Classy – VVS Laxman, The Legend of Tendulkar or The Great Indian Wall – Rahul Dravid? No doubt this lot has been the greatest combination of talent in the Indian Cricketing History but Dravid was never in news like others. But the time has come when ‘Rahul Dravid: Mr. Dependable’ is going to amidst the Cricket Chatter Mouths. The fault is not of the Great Town Talkers, the questions have risen due to the bluntness of Dravid’s bat. Not going in even in the recent past if we take the statistics for the current series, Dravid has scored 117 runs with an average of 19.5 runs in 6 innings. The total of 117 runs includes a fifty (51 runs) and his average is even less than Kumble’s in the present series. Only Ishant Sharma and Amit Mishra are behind Dravid in terms of average in the present series. The Indian Team at this point of time cannot afford such figures at the cost of talented young blood sitting out. Are we going to see one from Indian Cricket Star getting doomed is such a fashion? Present situation of Indian Cricket is not immune enough to take the set backs from such names one after the other so soon. Dravid needs to hang in their as Ganguly is playing his last Test and Indian Middle Order will need him to stay in their. The current form of Dravid can put pressure on him to call off just after the present Test against Australia of the Border – Gavaskar Trophy. More than him the exit of the best hometown pal Jumbo and his best middle order partner Dada will make him think in terms of hanging his boots up. The Selection Committee is not looking like providing especially the senior Indian players chances to come out of the lack of their form, as seen in case of Ganguly. Even rumours are strong that Kumble was pressurised to call off otherwise he would be axed. The justification of the Selection Committee’s behaviour cannot be questioned as in Asian countries once the bureaucrats take the charge then everything they do is fair. Cricket360 hopes, wishes and prays that Rahul Dravid encashes the last opportunity in form of the second innings of the 4th Test against Australia after scoring a duck in the 1st innings. Indian Team needs Dravid to stay in till the new boys get the flavour of the varied cricket field with the experience of such senior players in the Team. Indian Team’s Score at the end of post lunch session in the I innings of the 4th Test Match: Indian Team: 202/3 (Overs – 51) Batsmen: Tendulkar* – 62 (88 balls, 8 fours) Laxman* – 34 (95 balls, 3 fours) Cricket360 predicts a score of 300 for the loss of 3-4 wickets for the Indian Team at the end of the first day to remain in the driving seat for the 4th Test and make their chances bright to clinch the series 2-0 from the Australians.
