As we all know Indian cricket is not only about the players, Coaches but also about the Selectors who are responsible for some player’s success or failure and again the selection Committee is in the Spot Light.
In the present ongoing series between India and Australia some new faces have been introduced for the final and decider test in Nagpur. The selection of some players has risen quite uproar not only in the selection committee but also among players. Gautam Gambhir who was in an impeccable form was banned for the final test match after being find guilty for elbowing Shane Watson. To find a replacement for such an immaculate player would have been hard but there is no scarcity of talent right now in Indian cricket. So the selection committee on the pretext of bringing young blood decided to opt for (star) Tamil Nadu player Murali Vijay (as being said by Krish Shrikant). As per the rumor’s going around except Krish Shrikant no other selector was in agreement with this decision. The most important point is on what basis M Vijay was selected no doubt he has a good Avg. in first class record but what about others who are more talented than him for instance there is Cheteshwar Pujara who is much more younger than M Vijay if young blood is one of the reasons of M Vijay’s selection in the team. Pujara can bat with an Avg. of 47.32 in first class cricket (equivalent to M Vijay) but he can bowl too he has got 76 wickets in first class cricket. There are innumerable players who are much younger and have a much better record than M Vijay So what about them. Moreover M Vijay has no whatsoever experience in international cricket and bringing him in such a crucial match where every player counts can cause problems. The reason for his selection can also be possible because he is from Tamil Nadu same as our don Selector Krish Shrikant. This Phenomena has been witnessed whenever a team is selected for a future series for instance our X selector Mr. Dilip Vengsarkar a Maharashtrian always preferred Mumbai players like Wasim Jaffer who was given innumerable chances during Vengsarkar’s tenure as chief selector. This partiality towards ones regional players has been witnessed many times. There are many Players who are Knocking on the door for the Indian team but the gate masters are our selectors and hence they should be impartial and rational while selection of the team. It is this selection that makes or breaks a sportsperson. Not allowing a deserving candidate to play is not only ruining a carrier of a player but also a crime against the sports itself. Let’s hope for the best for this Sport and its players whose dream is to represent his country in the international arena.
