India vs. England: Selectors Hint on New Faces for Next 2 ODIs Print E-mail
Pitched By Cricket360 Reporter

Following Team India’s brilliant performance in the first two matches in the series, the national selectors are plunging into an experimentation spree. Upcoming cricket matches in the series may be the launching pad for some of the country’s new talents. Here is Cricket360 full report on the issue.

So far India has been superb against Pietersen’s England. Two consecutive wins in the seven match ODI series and Dhoni’s team India is on the top of the world. There is no reason to think that team India would stop ruling the pitch through the upcoming cricket matches in the series. A murderous Yuvraj and a striking Ishant by its side, Dhoni’s team seems to be in a mood of bombarding on the opponent in the Kanpur ODI too. And if it continues with its winning spree till the Cuttack ODI, then the team India is definitely going to have a few lesser known faces in its team sheet.

Do or die situation for England, but Indians are already contemplating a series win by the Cuttack ODI, the fifth of the ongoing series, which is scheduled on November 26th. If that is the case, the national selectors - Srikkanth, Hirwani, Yashpal Sharma, Surendra Bhave and Raja Venkat - would try the “lesser known faces” as their tramp cards for the last two matches of the series. By the fourth ODI in Bangalore, Sachin will be back too to set the cricket score board on fire.

So how will the Dhoni’s squad possibly look like for the last two ODIs? Here is a Cricket360 analysis.

While the selectors drop hints that Rudra Pratap Singh might be spared to bring back Irfan Pathan, the former finds a great ally in the captain who hopes that RP will soon “come back strong.” He has the Kanpur match to prove himself; otherwise the pie would go straight into the mouth of Irfan who has been performing well in Ranji Trophy. If RP makes it on Thursday, then Irfan has to remain content with the fact that at least the elder Pathan is with the squad. But for Rohit Sharma, the things are not shaping up well. Unless he contributes some significant cricket scores to the team, he must give way to the likes of Virat Kohli or Murali Vijay.

Much depends on the selection of the right team - England must be playing new cards to snatch the victory and Dhoni’s boys must counter it. The result of the ODI series against England is going to be very crucial for team India if it wants to snatch the top slot from the arch enemy-the Aussies. So let’s see if dark horses can lift the trophy for India and earn her the coveted top slot in the international cricket!
