PREVIOUS defeats seemed to have had an almost nil effect on Kevin Pietersen's mood. With every match lost came the speech of regret from the English captain but despite that he generally remained very cheerful. In Kanpur though he was genuinely disappointed with the result knowing well that this was a game they could have taken a win. " I knew it would be difficult to get a game in. We tried to chat with the umpires, but at the end of the day decisions were made. ICC rules state it has to be halfan- hour break between innings and after the toss, so finishing the game was always going to be tough," said the dejected English captain. He's been known to be a player who speaks his mind and for the first time in the series Pietersen was not completely satisfied. "Sometimes common sense has to be used in certain decisions. For example, Guwahati, where we play our sixth match, is in the eastern part of India. That means the sun probably sets faster so starting the match at 8: 30, just half- an- hour early, won't really help," he added. He also added that he would have liked to have used the flood lights at the Green Park in order to have extended play. "I would definitely have used the lights," Pietersen declared after the match. He also said that it was about time that one of his players comes good with a hundred, which has been the difference between the two teams. "We have played in India for years and years, but I think we have only seven or nine centuries by England batsman. Unfortunately, playing in India, you need to score big runs. You got to get hundreds. Hopefully in the next four games it will happen." " But I was happy with our bowlers. They were very aggressive, especially Freddie, who picked up three crucial wickets. We even got Yuvraj cheaply so I guess the bowling is doing fine." On the other front Indian coach Gary Kirsten said that his team won the match within the rules of the game. " We played within the rules of the game and won our match following those very rules. In hindsight I think England choosing to bat worked in our favour," said Kirsten.
