Carrying on from an overnight lead of a 189 runs, Simon Katich carried on the good work this morning. He added to his overnight score of 67 and went on to make a century, being chiefly instrumental in the Aussies getting up to a respectable score. He made an impressive 131 not out and helped the home side set the difficult looking target of 327 to get. At the end of the day’s play however, the visitors were reeling at 143 for 6 with no real hope of victory.
The cricket news on day one of the first test match between Australia and New Zealand being played at the Gabba seemed bad for Australia and then on day two seemed even worse for the visitors. Now at the end of day three of the test match, the live cricket seems poised on the brink of a premature result with what we at Cricket360 believe is defeat staring the visitors in the face. In view of the fact that wickets fell like ninepins on day two (16 wickets in all fell yesterday), Mitchell Johnson, who picked up 4 wickets for Australia gave a live cricket update on the pitch, saying that the it wasn’t the fault of the pitch (the way Ricky Ponting glared at the pitch when he got out certainly made it seem as if he blamed the pitch for his misfortune) that wickets were tumbling; "No definitely not, it's a good wicket". He added that "There is a little bit of movement there occasionally, it's a good wicket all round I think.” Mitchell was of the opinion that "If we can get 250 and beyond we'll be pretty happy with that," he said. In that case the bowler should be pretty happy with the live scoreboard which saw the Aussies set the Kiwis a stiff looking target. Carrying on from an overnight lead of a 189 runs, the cricket news was not good for the Kiwis as Simon Katich carried on the good work this morning. He added to his overnight score of 67 and went on to make a century, being chiefly instrumental in the Aussies getting up to a respectable score. He made an impressive 131 not out and helped the home side set the difficult looking target of 327 to get. The visitors made a very shaky start for their second innings and their live scoreboard looked none too impressive having lost their first wicket with only one run on the board. They were then 4 for 49, and the cricket news from the New Zealand camp looked very sad indeed. However the visitors managed to steady their innings with Ross Taylor making a substantial contribution with his unbeaten 67. They however lost two more wickets before the end of the day’s play and the New Zealand team seemed distinctly wobbly at 143 for the loss of six wickets and 184 runs still to get for victory at stumps today. Though Taylor is at the crease giving the glimmer of hope to the Kiwis, we at Cricket360 don’t believe that the visitors have a real chance to actually win this game.
