In the inaugural ICL World Series Match, middle order of Bangladesh XI collapsed tragically within a span of 16 runs, enabling the world XI to pocket the first victory of ICL World Series .
After winning the toss Bhashar decided to field first. The opening duo of World XI, Harvey and Goodwin was merciless on the bowlers and they put up 21 runs from first 10 balls but the honeymoon didn’t last long for them as Harvey failed to neatly cut Baisya in the 2nd over and was sent back by Kapali. Martyn was bowled by Rafique in the next over making the score blink at a poor 22 for 2 in 2.1 overs. Cricket360 found Rafique striking once again in the 5th over by uprooting Goodwin’s stumps at a score of 39 runs. Goodwin made a sporty contribution of 27 runs off 17 balls finding 6 boundaries. Then came the match winning partnership of 55 runs from Boje and Klusner and it lasted till the 11th over. At half way down World XI were at 91 for 3. Boje lastly lost control and was stumped by Ghosh in the 11th over for 34 runs from 23 balls. The Bangladesh XI looked pretty deserving a side to win by Cricket360 as they could manage to pick 28 runs from 3.1 over but then Nazimuddin fell before Adams for 20 runs off just 11 balls including two massive sixes off Gillespi. Then Nafeez and Aftab sailed up to the 9th over till the latter fell prey to Boje at a score of 75 runs and he made 29 off 17 with 2 fours and 2 sixes. Then it was the worst ever tragedy for Bangladesh as they lost five more wickets within a span of 26 balls and they could add only 15 more runs. Cricket360.com found the twist, making the climax look in favor of World XI at that stage. The failure was caused by Kapali, Bhashar, Karim and Ghosh and Klusner was the destroyer picking three of them. After 13th over the score read a sympathetic 90 for 7. The Bangladeshis could not regain from that blow and last minute efforts from Baisya, Mosharaff and Rafique could not help them find the required 40 runs from the last 2 overs and their fight ended at 155 for 9 after 20 overs, 12 runs short of their first win in ICL World Series.
