The Kiwis won the toss and elected to bat, a decision that appears to have been a good one, as the visitors made a solid start due in large part to the efforts of opener Aaron Redmond who has been the highest scorer so far with his score of 83. At stumps on the first day of the second test at the oval , the visitors were 262 for the loss of 6 wickets. The live scoreboard looked like this at the end of the day: Brendon McCullum and Daniel Vettori were at the crease with the personal scores of 30 and 12 respectively.
As the English cricket team head back home as a direct fall out of the terrible happenings in Mumbai’s terror marathon, it is business as usual in Adelaide, Australia where the second test match of the Trans Tasman Cup is underway between hosts Australia and visitors New Zealand. We at Cricket360 bring you a cricket update of the first day’s play. The live scoreboard in the morning showed that the Kiwis won the toss and elected to bat, a decision that appears to have been a good one, as the visitors made a solid start due in large part to the efforts of opener Aaron Redmond. The cricket news from the Adelaide Oval was that the Aussies probably felt that the conditions early in the morning would give their bowlers some movement in the air; however the bowlers did not meet with the kind of success that they enjoyed in the first test match. The live cricket action in the morning was not exactly spectacular, with the Kiwis making a cautious and watchful start. Mitchell Johnson carried on the good work from the first test match when he obtained the first breakthrough for the Australian team and claimed the wicket of Jamie How, who departed for a personal score of just 16. The New Zealand batting performance however failed to sparkle and at no point did the live cricket seem to be dominated by the batsmen. It does not appear that a challenging total will be posted by the visitors for the Aussie team since the pace of scoring was not particularly brisk or impressive. Even Redmond who has been the highest scorer for the Kiwis with his 83 so far has not appeared totally in command and his innings also was marked by watchfulness. The honors as far as bowling was concerned were fairly evenly distributed with Lee, Clark, Johnson and Symonds picking up a wicket each, and with Hauritz picking up two. At stumps on the first day of the second test at the oval, the visitors were 262 for the loss of 6 wickets. The live scoreboard looked like this at the end of the day: Brendon McCullum and Daniel Vettori were at the crease with the personal scores of 30 and 12 respectively. We at Cricket360.com will keep bringing you the cricket update of this match as it progresses. Stay tuned for day two’s proceedings.
